Una investigaci\u00f3n realizada con semillas de soja (<em>Glycine max<\/em>) ha demostrado que, a medida que estas envejecen, tambi\u00e9n cambia su relaci\u00f3n con esos microorganismos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El descubrimiento a\u00f1ade una nueva pieza a una pregunta que lleva d\u00e9cadas intrigando a investigadores, agricultores y aficionados: <strong>\u00bfpor qu\u00e9 una semilla vieja termina perdiendo su capacidad de germinar?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"disecci\u00f3n semilla con microbioma\" class=\"wp-image-4532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/entresemillas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/semillas-bio.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Una semilla es tambi\u00e9n un peque\u00f1o ecosistema<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aunque una semilla seca pueda parecer pr\u00e1cticamente inerte, puede albergar microorganismos sobre su cubierta e incluso en sus tejidos. Algunos son perjudiciales, otros aparentemente neutros y algunos pueden resultar beneficiosos para la planta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Esta comunidad comienza a formarse antes de que recolectemos la semilla y puede acompa\u00f1arla durante el almacenamiento y posteriormente durante la germinaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Por eso, cuando ponemos una semilla en contacto con agua no solo estamos despertando al embri\u00f3n vegetal. Tambi\u00e9n estamos reactivando las condiciones para todo un peque\u00f1o ecosistema microsc\u00f3pico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 ocurre cuando la semilla envejece?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigadores de varias instituciones austriacas estudiaron semillas de soja someti\u00e9ndolas a condiciones controladas de envejecimiento acelerado: <strong>45\u00b0C y un 75% de humedad relativa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estas no son condiciones recomendadas para almacenar semillas; precisamente se utilizaron para acelerar su deterioro y poder estudiarlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los investigadores descubrieron que las semillas envejecidas presentaban una <strong>menor diversidad de hongos<\/strong> y, adem\u00e1s, cambiaba la composici\u00f3n de esa comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Algunos hongos de los g\u00e9neros <em>Fusarium<\/em> y <em>Rhizopus<\/em> pod\u00edan perjudicar la germinaci\u00f3n incluso de semillas que no hab\u00edan envejecido. Estos compuestos pueden ser utilizados como nutrientes por determinados microorganismos y, en los experimentos, favorecieron el crecimiento de hongos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Se produce as\u00ed una situaci\u00f3n curiosa: mientras la semilla intenta despertar y producir su primera ra\u00edz, los microorganismos que la acompa\u00f1an tambi\u00e9n encuentran agua y nutrientes para desarrollarse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El envejecimiento, adem\u00e1s, provoca da\u00f1os celulares y altera el equilibrio qu\u00edmico interno de la semilla. Los hongos analizados mostraron una mayor tolerancia que las bacterias a algunas de estas condiciones, lo que podr\u00eda darles ventaja cuando la semilla pierde vigor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pero algunas bacterias pueden ayudar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No todos los microorganismos juegan en contra de la semilla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los investigadores probaron <strong>39 bacterias end\u00f3fitas<\/strong> procedentes de semillas de soja y encontraron dos cepas de <em>Bacillus<\/em> capaces de enfrentarse a determinados hongos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Una de ellas, <em>Bacillus toyonensis<\/em> C55, consigui\u00f3 mejorar la germinaci\u00f3n de semillas envejecidas de dos cultivares de soja, aparentemente ayudando a controlar las infecciones f\u00fangicas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sin embargo, otra bacteria del mismo g\u00e9nero, <em>Bacillus pumilus<\/em> AM26, termin\u00f3 perjudicando la germinaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Esto demuestra algo importante: <strong>no podemos dividir simplemente los microorganismos entre \u00abbuenos\u00bb y \u00abmalos\u00bb<\/strong>. Sus efectos dependen de la especie, de la cepa, de la propia semilla y de las condiciones en las que interact\u00faan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curiosamente, cuando las semillas eran j\u00f3venes y conservaban un vigor elevado, estas bacterias no produjeron efectos importantes. El propio estudio demuestra que eliminar microorganismos indiscriminadamente podr\u00eda significar eliminar tambi\u00e9n algunos potencialmente beneficiosos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lo que s\u00ed refuerza es la importancia de conservar correctamente las semillas. <strong>Temperaturas elevadas y humedad aceleran su deterioro<\/strong>, y ahora sabemos que ese envejecimiento puede alterar tambi\u00e9n las relaciones entre la semilla y los microorganismos que la acompa\u00f1an.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mantenerlas secas, frescas y protegidas de cambios bruscos sigue siendo una de las mejores estrategias para prolongar su viabilidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Una semilla nunca despierta completamente sola<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Durante mucho tiempo hemos explicado la germinaci\u00f3n hablando de temperatura, humedad, dormancia, hormonas y estado del embri\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Todos estos factores siguen siendo fundamentales, pero ahora sabemos que existe otro protagonista microsc\u00f3pico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Una semilla puede llevar consigo hongos y bacterias desde antes incluso de ser recolectada.
